Education Minister to Present Tinubu’s Three-Year Sector Scorecard at Abuja Summit

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, is scheduled to present the Federal Government’s three-year education reform scorecard this Wednesday. The presentation will take place at a national summit in Abuja, drawing together policymakers, academic experts, and development partners to evaluate the sector’s trajectory.

Organized by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN), the 2026 Education Summit will host stakeholders at the Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II. The event is themed, “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”

According to a statement released on Monday by ECAN Chairman Chux Ukwuatu, the summit aims to provide a critical, evidence-based appraisal of current education policies while fostering a collaborative dialogue on navigating persistent systemic challenges.

### Key Reforms Under Review

The gathering marks one of the first comprehensive stakeholder assessments of the administration’s major educational milestones since May 2023. Key initiatives slated for review include:

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND): Launched to expand financial access to tertiary education.

Enrollment Drives: Targeted interventions designed to drastically reduce the population of out-of-school children.

* **Vocational & Technical Training:** Intensified curriculum reforms aimed at aligning vocational skills with 21st-century labor market demands.

Digital & Quality Infrastructure: Expanded learning assessments, nationwide digital education initiatives, and research funding partnerships via the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

In addition to policy evaluation, the summit will feature an awards segment recognizing outstanding individuals and institutions that have contributed significantly to human capital development across the country.

The event will bring together a diverse cohort of school administrators, civil society organizations, researchers, and student representatives to help map out strategic priorities for the next phase of Nigeria’s educational agenda.
