EFCC Arrests TikToker Over False Kidnap Claim Involving Agency’s Operatives

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a TikTok user for allegedly spreading false information about the agency and its officers.

The suspect, Udoma David Ekeh, who operates the TikTok handle @davysoft231, was taken into custody following a video he shared in late December 2025 claiming that operatives of the EFCC Ilorin Zonal Directorate had been kidnapped by bandits.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the agency’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Dr Suleiman Haruna, the EFCC described the claims as entirely fabricated.

According to the statement, Ekeh had alleged in the video that officers were abducted during an anti-crime raid in Kwara State, and that the bandits subsequently demanded a ransom from the commission.

The video also contained remarks criticising the EFCC’s operational capacity, with the suspect suggesting the agency was ill-equipped to handle the situation.

As of the time of this report, the video had garnered over 138,000 views, alongside thousands of likes and comments.

The EFCC condemned the post as misleading and reckless, noting that it was designed to incite public alarm and undermine the commission’s efforts to combat internet fraud.

“All his claims are fabricated, together with the use of his TikTok account to incite and misinform the public about the commission’s relentless efforts in tackling the menace of internet fraud,” the statement read.

The agency added that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was also allegedly involved in a romance scam, using a Facebook account to impersonate a foreigner identified as Garg Carta.

Ekeh is expected to face prosecution in court soon.
