EFCC Secures Conviction of ‘Easy-Money’ for Naira Abuse, Gets One-Year Jail Term

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of a 24-year-old palm kernel dealer, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, popularly known as “Easy-money,” for abusing the Naira during his birthday celebration.

Ikechukwu was sentenced to one year imprisonment by Justice F. O. Giwa-Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu.

The EFCC, in a statement on Tuesday, said the convict was arraigned on March 26, 2026, on a one-count charge of mutilating Naira notes amounting to N81,700. The offence occurred on February 22, 2026, at Embassy Hotel Enugu Ezike in Enugu State, where he was seen in a viral video dancing and stepping on the currency notes during his birthday party.

Ikechukwu pleaded guilty to the charge, which was brought under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

Following his plea, Justice Giwa-Ogunbanjo convicted him and handed down a one-year prison sentence from the date of arraignment, with an option of a N300,000 fine. The court also ordered that the N81,700 recovered from him be forfeited to the Federal Government through the EFCC.

The EFCC noted that Ikechukwu was arrested on February 28, 2026, at his residence in Enugu-Ezike, following actionable intelligence from the social media video that captured the incident.
