Violent clashes between farmers and herders in Gulma town, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have resulted in the deaths of eight people.

The conflict reportedly began on Monday when a local farmer was allegedly stabbed to death by a herder while working on his farmland. The incident triggered a series of reprisal attacks as members of the farming community moved into nearby settlements, leading to further violence and casualties.

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the incident. SP Bashir Usman, the command’s spokesperson, stated that the unrest began around 3:00 p.m. but has since been brought under control by deployed security forces.

According to the police, four people sustained injuries during the violence; they were rescued by security personnel and have since received medical treatment and been discharged.

Normalcy has reportedly been restored to the area, with security operatives maintaining a presence to prevent any further breakdown of law and order. Authorities have called on residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and instead report grievances through official legal channels.
