The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in illicit drug trafficking in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The suspects, identified as Promise Fasọla and Ileri-Oluwa Alao, were apprehended during a raid at a drug market in the Alade Garage area of Basiri, Ado Ekiti. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, items recovered from them include quantities of Colorado, Indian hemp, Loud, a Point of Sale (POS) machine, an Android phone, and a power bank.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Abutu said the suspects have confessed to being illicit drug dealers. He added that they would be thoroughly investigated and charged to court, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.
The raid was carried out by the Divisional Police Officer of the New Iyin Division and his team, acting on intelligence-led policing directives. Abutu noted that the operation aligned with the marching orders given by the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, to all Divisional Police Officers and heads of tactical units. The directive requires continuous raids on all identified criminal hideouts as part of measures to rid the state of criminal elements.
The police spokesperson also quoted the Commissioner as appealing to members of the public to cooperate with the police by providing credible and timely information on criminal activities and hideouts, to enable the command to take swift and necessary action.
