‘Emir’ on the Run as Police Nab Suspect with Loaded Pistol in Lagos

A routine stop-and-search operation in Lagos has sparked a manhunt for a fleeing suspect identified simply as ‘Emir’ after police allegedly found a loaded pistol on a 22-year-old man and traced another firearm to a hotel room in Aguda.
The drama began along Adetola Road, Aguda, where operatives of the Lagos State Police Command intercepted Olamide Suleiman, 22, during a routine stop-and-search operation.
A search conducted on Suleiman allegedly yielded dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
But a further search of his bag reportedly turned up something more sinister, a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
According to the police, Suleiman, during interrogation, allegedly pointed investigators in the direction of ‘Emir’, whom he claimed owned the recovered pistol and was lodging at a hotel in Aguda.
Armed with the information, the operatives immediately raced to the hotel to apprehend the alleged owner of the weapon.
But ‘Emir’ was already on the run.
A search of the hotel room he allegedly occupied, however, yielded another weapon, a double-barrel gun.
The discovery has widened the investigation, with police now hunting for Emir and other suspected members of what the Command described as a criminal gang.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the vigilance of the operatives and their swift response to the intelligence obtained from the arrested suspect.Law Enforcement
Fatai reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Lagos of criminal elements and urged residents to support the police with timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention and detection.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the nearest police station.Geographic Reference
