Family Appeals for Funds as Injured Police Inspector Fights for Life After Deadly Rivers Attack

The family of Inspector Godday Aleru is seeking urgent financial assistance to cover mounting medical expenses after the officer sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds during a violent attack in Rivers State.

Inspector Aleru was on duty with his colleagues on Monday night when unidentified gunmen ambushed them at Aluu in the Ikwerre Local Government Area. The officers, who were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along the Mbodo-Aluu axis of the Obiri Ikwerre Road, were overwhelmed by the attackers. Two of the officers were killed instantly, while Inspector Aleru survived the assault with critical injuries.

His family members have stated that they are struggling to meet the hospital’s financial demands to initiate necessary procedures. According to his wife, they require approximately N1 million to begin the specialized care needed to stabilize his condition. A video shared on social media shows the inspector receiving treatment while clearly suffering from his injuries.

Following the attack, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, led a team to the site on Tuesday to conduct an assessment of the scene. While the police have not yet released details regarding the motive behind the assault or identified the attackers, the incident has highlighted the ongoing security challenges in the region.

The family is now calling on the public for urgent support to ensure the inspector receives the critical medical intervention required to save his life.
