Family Of Slain Oyo Teacher Seeks Help To Recover Body

The family of Michael Oyedokun, the schoolteacher killed during a mass abduction in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to security agencies and the government for assistance to recover his body for a befitting burial.

In an open letter issued on Monday, the family expressed profound gratitude to the federal government and security agencies for successfully rescuing the surviving students and teachers after nearly two months in captivity. However, they noted that their grief remains unresolved because Oyedokun’s body has not yet been returned to them.

The family emphasized that while the successful rescue operation brought immense relief to other affected homes, they continue to mourn without closure.

In their appeal, they urged the President to direct security agencies to utilize the same resolve that freed the survivors to locate and retrieve the deceased teacher’s remains.

They stated that receiving his body would allow them to perform final rites according to their faith and traditions, restoring dignity to his memory and allowing the family to heal.

According to accounts from the recently rescued school principal, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, Oyedokun was killed by the abductors on their second day in captivity, while another teacher, Esiyan Adegboye, was shot dead during the initial attack.

While Adegboye’s remains were recovered and buried in late May, Oyedokun’s body remains missing despite the successful security operation that secured the release of the remaining hostages after 57 days.

The family maintains that recovering the body is a solemn obligation that demonstrates no citizen is forgotten, even in death.
