Female POS Operator Killed in Abuja Following Reported FRSC Chase

A Point of Sale operator was killed on Monday after being struck by a commercial bus in the Berger area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The incident occurred near the Total filling station. According to eyewitness accounts, the coaster bus involved was being pursued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps at the time of the collision.

Witnesses reported that the victim, a woman, had just bought food and was crossing the road when she was hit. They stated that neither the bus driver nor the FRSC vehicle stopped at the scene following the accident.

The victim remained on the road until police officers from the Utako Division arrived. She was confirmed dead at the scene. An individual who recorded the incident accompanied the police to assist with their investigation.

Local mechanics and another POS operator in the area confirmed the chase and stated that such high-speed pursuits by FRSC officials are frequent in the location. They referenced a similar, non-fatal incident that occurred just days prior.

In response to inquiries, the FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, stated that the Corps has launched an investigation into the matter.

“I have recalled all patrol teams, particularly within the central area here, Zone 7, and surrounding areas, to determine whether any of our patrol units were actually involved,” Theman said. He noted that a formal statement would be issued once the investigation is concluded, cautioning that the identity of the vehicles involved has not yet been verified.

Efforts to reach the FCT Police Public Relations Officer for comment were not immediately successful.
