FG Says 152 Nigerians Renounced Their Citizenship In 2022
The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs has disclosed that 159 Nigerians renounced their citizenship of the country in year 2022 alone.
Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, revealed this on Thursday at the 64th session of the State House Ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team, at the Aso Rock Villa.
Belgore said out of this number, 150 were those who renounced their citizenship between 2006 to 2021.
Cumulatively, 9 others joined, making the total number to 159 who renounced their citizenship.
Meanwhile, the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, said the massive exodus of Nigerians out of the county in search of greener pastures was leading to high demands for passports.
The minister said the Immigration Service issued the highest number of passport booklets in 2022, totalling 1,899,683 in over seven years.
