First Lady Calls for Digital Accessibility on World Braille Day

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has marked World Braille Day 2026 with a call to bridge the digital divide for blind and visually impaired persons, emphasizing the importance of inclusive technology.
In a statement personally signed and released on Sunday, Mrs. Tinubu described Braille as an essential instrument for promoting inclusion, dignity, and independence. She underscored the urgent need to integrate Braille with modern technology to ensure equal access to information, education, and opportunities in a rapidly digitizing society.
“As the world becomes increasingly digital, it is imperative that we bridge the digital gap by ensuring accessibility in a digital age,” the First Lady stated.
Mrs. Tinubu urged both the government and the Nigerian public to support the creation of inclusive environments that enable all citizens to live full and independent lives. She also advocated for stronger policies and collaborative partnerships designed to empower every individual to participate confidently in the nation-building process.
World Braille Day is observed globally on January 4 each year to highlight the critical role of Braille as a communication medium for blind and partially sighted individuals.
