Former ABU VC, Abdullahi Mahdi, Dies @ 77

Former Vice Chancelor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and foremost historian, Professor Abdullahi Mahadi, is dead.

He died at the age of 77.

Mr Mahdi served as Vice Chancellor for both Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Gombe State University, and Gombe State University of Science and Technology.

He began his teaching career in 1984 as a senior lecturer in History at ABU and rose to become the vice chancellor from 1998 to 2004.

The late professor was granted the national honour of CON.

According to The Abusite, he was honored at the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, ISESCO Headquarters, Rabat, Morocco in 2017 by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on “The Environmental Management and Protection in the Islamic World”.

He had authored and co-authored several books among which is History of Nigeria for Schools and Colleges, Books I-II, (Longman, 1988).
