Former Adult Film Actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz Sworn In as Colombian Senator

Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, a former journalist and adult film actress professionally known as Amaranta Hank, has officially taken the oath of office as a senator in Colombia for the 2026–2030 parliamentary term.

Omaña secured her legislative seat representing the Norte de Santander region under the banner of the ruling leftist coalition, the Historic Pact. The bloc emerged as the largest political force in the Senate following the national elections, securing over 4.4 million votes (22.72%) and clinching 25 seats.

Running on a platform centered on labor protections for sex workers, mental health advocacy, and initiatives against sexual abuse, Omaña pushed back against public criticism regarding her non-traditional background. She asserted that working in the adult entertainment industry should not disqualify anyone from serving in public office, highlighting that workers in the sector contribute significantly to the national economy and deserve legal rights rather than societal stigma.

The native of Cúcuta previously worked as a journalist before entering adult film production and later returning to public service. Her swearing-in represents one of the most widely watched political developments in the country, following earlier controversy surrounding appointments within President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
