Former Defence Chief, Ibrahim Ogohi is dead

The first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in the 4th Republic, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (rtd), is dead.

The Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, in a terse statement on Sunday, confirmed the news of Ogohi’s death, saying the former CDS died in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, 2024 in Abuja.

The Defence spokesman said, “With deep sorrow, I announced the death of Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (rtd), a former Chief of Defence Staff (1999-2003). He passed on in Abuja in the early hours of today,” adding that more details will be communicated later.

The late Admiral who hails from kogi State was appointed Chief of Defence Staff between 1999 and 2003 by President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was the first Naval officer to reach four star rank in the Nigerian military, including being the first chief of Defence Staff from Navy.
