Former Finance Director Dies Amid Dispute Over Unpaid Entitlements at Construction Firm

A former expatriate Finance Director at Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company (Nigeria) Limited, Abirban Som, has reportedly passed away while his estate remains in a protracted dispute with the firm over over €100,000 in allegedly unpaid salary, allowances, and terminal benefits.

According to reports, Som served the construction company for decades, spanning from 2000 until his death in October 2026. Sources close to the matter indicate that the company failed to settle his financial obligations following the termination of his appointment, a debt that remains outstanding despite his passing.

“Since his death, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company has refused to pay all his entitlements,” a source stated, noting that the total amount owed to the late director covers backdated salary and various contractual benefits.

This case is reportedly part of a wider pattern of financial disputes involving the company. Evidence recently emerged detailing similar claims from 12 other former expatriate staff members who were disengaged between 2022 and 2025. These former employees allege that the firm collectively owes them approximately €380,000 and $3,500 in outstanding wages and benefits.

Documentation provided by these former employees highlights that their contracts included clear provisions regarding salary, allowances, and final settlement upon the termination of employment. Despite these contractual agreements, many of the affected workers several of whom have since returned to their home countries claim they have yet to receive the compensation they are owed.

Dantata & Sawoe has faced increasing scrutiny over these allegations as former staff members continue to seek legal recourse to recover their dues. Company representatives have yet to issue a formal public statement addressing the specific claims regarding the late Finance Director or the outstanding payments owed to the group of former expatriate workers.
