Fubara Says Reconstructed Rivers Secretariat Will Be Ready by Early 2027

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced that the ongoing massive reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex will be completed and handed over in the first quarter of 2027.
The governor made this known on Monday after inspecting the sprawling high-rise structures located in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt. A statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, confirmed the visit, noting that Fubara had toured the site earlier in the year but returned to personally assess the level of interior work.
“I have been seeing the outer part wearing a new look, but I wanted to really confirm how much work is going on inside,” the governor said. “With the progress of work here, by the grace of God, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, it will be handed over to the government.
Fubara stressed that his administration is committed to completing every project it undertakes. The secretariat complex, originally built in the 1970s shortly after the state’s creation, comprises multiple high-rise blocks, including the 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block, and three 7-storey structures known as Blocks A, B, and C.
The current renovation is described as a comprehensive overhaul that involves structural rehabilitation, modern office layouts, installation of contemporary facilities, and the upgrading of utilities to meet present-day administrative requirements.
Once finished, the project is expected to provide civil servants with a more efficient, technology-driven, and conducive working environment.
