FUHSA University Renamed in Honour of Late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi by Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, after the late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. The announcement was made on Saturday during a condolence visit to the cleric’s family at his country home in Bauchi.
Tinubu said the renaming aims to immortalise Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s contributions to humanity and religious scholarship. “From today onward, the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, will be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University. May God bless his memory,” he said.
The President described the cleric’s death as a “great national loss,” noting his life was marked by humility, selfless service, and dedication to propagating Islam and peace. Tinubu prayed for Allah’s mercy on the late scholar’s soul and strength for his family and the people of Bauchi State.
The eldest son of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Sheikh Ibrahim Usman Bauchi, thanked Tinubu for the condolence visit and honour bestowed on their father. Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, also thanked the President for the gesture, describing it as recognition of the late cleric’s enduring legacy.
Tinubu was accompanied by top government officials, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State. The condolence visit was part of the President’s engagements to commiserate with the family and followers of the late Islamic scholar.
