The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has been ranked the fourth most preferred university for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) in Nigeria; according to reports received by The Harmattan News. On top of the list are the University of Ilorin, the University of Lagos, and the Lagos State University, showcasing their continued appeal to aspiring students nationwide.
During the 2023 policy meeting, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), highlighted that these top 10 institutions were recognized based on their ability to attract a substantial number of applicants during the UTME application period. The University of Ilorin came first, followed by the University of Lagos in second place, the Lagos State University in third place, and the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti securing a commendable fourth position.
Joining this group are other prominent universities, including the University of Benin, the University of Nigeria, the Obafemi Awolowo University, the Nnamdi Azikwe University, the Nigerian Defence Academy, and the University of Ibadan, each contributing to the educational landscape of Nigeria.
Established in 2011 under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti stands as one of the nine federal universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The news comes on the heels of another noteworthy accomplishment as the university recently emerged as the recipient of the Campus Wide Broadband Network (CBN) valued at N400 million.
The news from JAMB arrives just days after the university secured the broadband network, which was announced during a five-day training on the Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme. The training, organized by the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), a division of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), commenced with an opening ceremony led by Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE.
Expressing his enthusiasm during the ceremony, Professor Fasina emphasized that the training aimed not only to enhance the skills and cohesion of the staff but also to equip them with the necessary tools to tackle future challenges and propel FUOYE onto the global stage. With these recent accomplishments, FUOYE continues to solidify its reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing and highly regarded institutions of higher education.
