FUOYE VC Supports Student Chef’s Guinness Record Ambition!

Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has extended his support to Damilola Adeparusi, a student chef at the university, who is on a remarkable journey to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. Prof. Fasina has generously donated a substantial cash gift to encourage and facilitate Adeparusi’s endeavour. The ambitious student, currently in her third year of Mass Communication studies, aims to surpass Hilda Baci’s existing record of 100 hours. At the time of this report on Monday, June 12, 2023, Adeparusi has already cooked for an impressive duration of over 85 hours.
In a press statement issued by FUOYE, it was revealed that the cash donation is specifically intended to provide Adeparusi with logistical support. The statement, signed by Wole Balogun, the SA Media to the Vice-Chancellor, states, “Damilola’s evident ambition is to break the world record set by another Nigerian, Hilda Baci, who recently cooked for 100 hours in Lagos. Adeparusi has been tirelessly cooking for over 85 hours in an apartment located in a community within the Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.”
Adeparusi commenced her formidable 120-hour cooking challenge at midnight on Friday in a confined kitchen space with limited ventilation. Despite the absence of medical personnel on-site in case of unforeseen circumstances, her dedication has garnered significant global and media attention. The security presence around the area has been minimal, with a small number of private security officers known as bouncers.
Beyond her culinary prowess, Dammy, as she is affectionately known among friends, is a multi-talented individual, excelling as a poet, songwriter, and editor. Her official social media platforms reflect these additional creative pursuits.
Representing the Spirit Word Global Mission, Adeparusi’s cook-a-thon serves as a platform for her to challenge Hilda Baci’s 100-hour record with her own goal of 120 hours. Impressively, she has prepared a diverse range of delicious meals, including rice and beans, beans porridge, semolina with vegetables, porridge, and spaghetti.
Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, expressed words of encouragement to Adeparusi and called upon the indigenes of Ekiti to rally behind her, fostering a sense of pride for the state. Mrs Olayemi Oyebanji, the wife of the state governor, also conveyed her supportive words, as did the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State, and other distinguished Nigerians.
Those interested can witness Damilola’s daring feat live on social media through the official pages of the sponsoring church, Spirit Word Global Mission, available on Facebook (Spirit or Live) and Instagram (spiritwordglobalmission).
