Gombe Approves N618bn 2026 Budget, Allocates N12bn to Regional Security Fund

Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, on Monday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N617.95 billion into law, endorsing a spending plan focused on infrastructure and security.
The signing ceremony at the Government House in Gombe followed the presentation of the bill by the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Abubakar Luggerewo. The approved “Budget of Consolidation” represents a significant increase of over N82 billion from the governor’s initial proposal of N535.69 billion.
The budget allocates N428.5 billion (69.4%) to capital expenditure, underscoring the administration’s development agenda, while N189 billion (21.6%) is set aside for recurrent spending. A standout provision is a N12 billion regional security fund, aligning with Northern States Governors’ Forum resolutions to collectively address insecurity.
Governor Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing legacy projects and delivering people-centered development. “This administration remains fully committed to responding to the needs and aspirations of our people with a budget that is realistic, responsible and centred on the citizen,” he stated.
He highlighted priority sectors including health, education, social investment, and environmental protection, with a specific allocation for the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
Speaker Luggerewo explained that the Assembly’s adjustments after careful review were made “in good faith and in the best interest of the people.” He praised the governor for fostering a cooperative relationship between government branches and for the state’s visible progress in sectors like healthcare.
Governor Yahaya concluded by affirming a commitment to fiscal discipline, noting his administration’s history of achieving over 70% budget implementation.
