Governor Mutfwang Sponsors 200 Plateau Students to India for University Degrees
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has launched a major educational intervention by sponsoring 200 students to study at Sanskaram University in India under the new Mutfwang Legacy Scholarship Scheme.
The beneficiaries, who were officially sent off at a ceremony in Jos on Tuesday, will pursue degrees in Medical Sciences, Engineering, and Information and Communication Technology. Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the selection process was strictly merit-based, with no political or quota considerations.
“We did not allocate slots to politicians, local governments, or institutions. Everyone selected is here because of hard work and excellence,” the governor stated, noting that the university independently supervised the screening.
He urged the students to act as ambassadors of Plateau State and devote themselves to their studies, adding that the scholarship represents an investment in the future leadership of the state and the nation.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kachollom Pyam Gang, described the initiative as historic, noting that no previous administration had sponsored such a large group of students abroad at once.
A parent representative at the ceremony, Mr. Fabong Adanchin, praised the governor for upholding meritocracy, revealing that his own son had earned a place in the scheme despite the parent not supporting the governor in the last election.
The state scholarship board also reported an expansion of bursary awards and scholarship opportunities under the current administration, alongside new education reforms in the 2026 state budget, including a special research fund and enhanced postgraduate support at Plateau State University.
