Governor Okpebholo Releases N1bn for Edo Retirees’ Gratuity Arrears
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved and released the sum of N1 billion to continue paying gratuity arrears owed to retired local government workers and primary school teachers from the 2012 batch.
The Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, Kabiru Adjoto, announced the disbursement during a meeting with union representatives, including the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, the Local Government Pensioners Association, and the National Union of Local Government Employees.
Adjoto explained that the funding will allow the Local Government Pension Bureau to complete payments for remaining retirees in the 2012 batch before extending to subsequent sets, as part of the administration’s plan to systematically clear backlogs.
Union representatives commended the state government for the release, while appealing for larger allocations in future disbursements to accelerate the clearance of remaining arrears.
