Governor Uzodimma Calls for Unity and Diligence at Imo’s 50th Anniversary

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has called on politicians and public office holders in the state to commit to diligent service in order to advance its progress and development.

The governor made the appeal on Saturday in Owerri during the grand finale of events marking the 50th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Reflecting on the occasion, Uzodimma urged political actors and stakeholders to learn from past errors and embrace a united purpose. “Every political actor and stakeholder must embrace a high sense of duty. Our politics must be a vehicle for development. We can go higher with unity, and we must learn from our mistakes,” he stated.

He expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded since the state was created on February 3, 1976, by the former Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed, but acknowledged there is still more to be achieved.

“We have made significant progress as a people and as a state. It is not yet Uhuru, as we have not reached where we are supposed to be. It has been 50 years of building upon hope, relying on the grace of God and the resilience of our people,” the governor added.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Commonwealth Secretary-General Prof. Emeka Anyaoku, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
