House of Reps Urges FG Action After Taraba Clash Kills Five, Displaces Many

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to put an end to the recurring violence between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, following a fresh clash that claimed five lives and displaced over 100 residents.
The call came after a motion sponsored by lawmaker Mohammed Audu during plenary on Wednesday. Audu drew attention to the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in the affected communities.
According to Audu, violence erupted again between the two communities on May 29, 2026, resulting in the death of at least five persons, injuries to several others, and widespread destruction of homes, farm produce, and livestock.
He warned that the renewed hostilities have worsened an already precarious security situation in Karim Lamido, where communities are also facing attacks from bandits operating along the borders of Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe states.
The lawmaker noted that more than 100 residents have been displaced and rendered homeless, with villages such as Mutun Daya, Bambur Zailani, Didango, Andami, and Mayo-Gauri now filled with refugees. He added that many victims are farmers who have lost their livelihoods.
The House expressed concern that repeated communal clashes continue to threaten peace and stability in parts of Taraba State, particularly in areas already exposed to cross-border banditry.
Lawmakers subsequently urged security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and prevent further loss of lives. They also called on the Federal Government and humanitarian agencies to provide emergency relief to displaced persons and support communities affected by the violence.
The House stressed the need for a lasting resolution through dialogue, strengthened security presence, and sustained peace-building initiatives.
