IBEDC Suspends Employees Over Alleged Vandalism of Power Facilities in Ikirun

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc has suspended some of its employees allegedly linked to the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Ikirun, Osun State.

The company’s action followed the arrest of individuals by the Osun State Police Command over the alleged destruction of power facilities in the community.

IBEDC’s Coordinating Head of Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Olanrewaju said the employees suspected of being involved had been placed on suspension to allow investigations into the incident to proceed without interference.

She added that IBEDC was working closely with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that the investigation was conducted properly and that the facts surrounding the alleged vandalism were established.

The company said it would impose appropriate disciplinary measures on any staff member found to have violated its rules or the law.

According to IBEDC, vandalism of electricity infrastructure remains a major challenge to reliable power distribution, as damaged facilities can result in prolonged outages and disruptions for customers and entire communities.

The company warned that the destruction or theft of power equipment not only affects electricity supply but also creates additional costs and inconvenience for consumers.

IBEDC said it would continue to work with security agencies and other relevant authorities to tackle the growing threat and ensure that those found responsible face legal consequences.

The electricity distributor also appealed to residents, community leaders and other members of the public to be vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around electricity installations.
