IGP Deploy Tactical Assets Following Deadly Kwara Attack

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, following a violent attack that claimed numerous lives earlier this week.

In a statement on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin described the Tuesday assault as “deeply painful and tragic,” confirming that seventy-five persons lost their lives. The IGP extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Kwara State Government, and its people.

Hundeyin stated that the deployment is intended to restore calm, reinforce security, and prevent further violence in Kaiama and surrounding communities. He assured the public that the police are committed to protecting lives and property and have launched an intensive investigation to apprehend those responsible.

“All available resources have been mobilised to ensure that those responsible are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice. The perpetrators will not escape the long arm of the law,” the police spokesman said.

He encouraged citizens to remain calm and to support security operations by providing credible information through official channels.

The attack occurred amid growing security concerns in parts of North-Central Nigeria, where rural communities have faced repeated assaults by armed groups. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who visited the affected area, stated the victims were targeted for resisting attempts to impose an extremist doctrine.
