Insecurity Worse in Sokoto Rural Areas, NUJ Alarms

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sokoto State Council has expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in parts of the state. In a communiqué, the union stated that residents are forced to leave their homes at night and return in the morning due to the insecurity.
The NUJ acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in combating banditry and kidnappings but emphasized the need for adequate measures to protect lives and property, particularly in areas like Wurno Local Government Area.
The union also highlighted the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and called on governments and humanitarian agencies to provide support in shelter, healthcare, education, and livelihoods. Additionally, the NUJ urged the state government to accelerate ongoing projects in roads, health, and education, and improve access to public information.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to ethical journalism and accountability in reporting security and development issues in Sokoto State.
