Islamic Group Urges Government to Invest in School Security Infrastructure Following Oyo Rescue

Following the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria has called on both the Federal and State Governments to significantly upgrade security infrastructure across educational institutions nationwide. The organization emphasized that prioritizing community policing and early warning mechanisms is crucial to preventing future attacks on learning environments.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Sola Hassan, the group commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and intelligence agencies for their dedication in securing the release of the victims. However, the group expressed deep concern over the recurring threat of mass abductions targeting schools, asserting that academic institutions must be preserved as safe sanctuaries for learning rather than spaces of fear and insecurity.
The appeal comes in the wake of the successful rescue of dozens of pupils and teachers who spent 56 days in captivity after being abducted from the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The coordinated bandit attacks targeted three local schools: Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School in Esiele. During the initial raids, 39 pupils and seven teachers, including a school principal, were taken, while one teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was tragically killed shortly after the abduction.
The society urged the public to respect the privacy of the rescued victims as they reunite with their families and undergo necessary psychological rehabilitation. It also pressed law enforcement agencies to intensify intelligence-gathering networks and ensure that those behind the school raids are swiftly brought to justice to restore public confidence in the safety of the nation’s educational system.
