K1’s Saxophonist Apologizes Over Controversial ‘Unnecessary Pregnancy’ Stage Performance

Olawale Adekoya, the saxophonist for prominent Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde (popularly known as K1 De Ultimate), has issued a public apology following social media backlash over a controversial stage chant about “unnecessary pregnancy.”

The incident triggered widespread public criticism coming shortly after a woman, Ogechi Eleana, publicly alleged that the Fuji star abandoned her and their 12-year-old daughter.

In a video statement released on Sunday, Adekoya took full responsibility for the performance, explaining that he was the one who interpreted the drum rhythm (*alujo*) to K1 during the live show. He stressed that the lead singer had no hand in introducing or directing the controversial interpretation.

Adekoya clarified that the rhythm itself was an established part of the band’s repertoire, created by percussionist Ayokunle Ayolowo, and had long been one of K1’s favorite beats. According to the saxophonist, band members had casually created various playful interpretations for the rhythm months prior to the recent paternity allegations becoming public.

Acknowledging that the timing of the chant was insensitive, Adekoya denied claims that the band was targeting or mocking the woman and her child. He stated that the performance was intended solely as lighthearted entertainment among the band members.

Extending an apology on behalf of the band, Adekoya added that his statement was made voluntarily to clear the air and take accountability for the poor timing of the performance.
