Kaduna Governor Warns Against Anti-Democracy Moves, Urges Vigilance

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has called on Nigerians to remain vigilant against attempts by opposition elements to undermine democracy, stressing the need for collective responsibility and adherence to constitutional governance.

Speaking on Friday at a state banquet in Kaduna organised for the Presidential Media Team touring federal projects in the North-West, Governor Sani highlighted ongoing development efforts across the region while cautioning citizens against being swayed by what he termed “self-serving narratives” driven by political interests.

The governor recalled the sacrifices made by journalists and pro-democracy activists during Nigeria’s era of military rule, noting that many lost their freedoms and endured detention in the struggle for democratic governance.

He specifically mentioned late journalists Bagauda Kaltho and Dele Giwa, while commending presidential aides Bayo Onanuga, Sunday Dare, and Tunde Rahman for their roles in defending democracy and promoting government achievements.

“People must realise that we had many sleepless nights in the past, fighting for democracy,” Sani said, emphasising the importance of safeguarding the democratic gains of recent decades.

The Presidential Media Team, led by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, earlier commended infrastructure development by both federal and state governments following inspections of key projects across Kaduna State.

Projects visited included the 35-kilometre Gadan-Gayam-Gwaraji-Kujama roads, a Skills Acquisition Centre, the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, and the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi railway project.

Onanuga described Kaduna’s transformation as evidence of the effective use of increased allocations under President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal reforms, stating that previously neglected communities were now benefiting from infrastructure development. He praised Governor Sani for pursuing the public good.

According to Abdullahi Yakubu, a Project Desk Officer at the Ministry of Transportation, the Kaduna-Kano section of the rail project is now 68 percent complete and expected to be finished by December.
