Kano Digital Market Project Targets ₦50bn Revenue and 100,000 Jobs
The newly commissioned Hajaj-ZOEC Digital Market in Kano State is projected to generate roughly ₦50bn in revenue and create over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs. The facility was officially inaugurated at the site of the former Luxurious Bus Park along New Road in Sabon Gari, Kano.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership involving the Kano State Government, Hajaj ZOEC Real Estate Limited, and ZOEC Construction, the project carries an estimated value between ₦25bn and ₦30bn. Built to accommodate more than 1,500 shops under one roof, the facility is designed as a major distribution hub for electrical and electronic products in Nigeria and across West Africa, reducing the need for local traders to travel abroad for bulk purchases.
Between 60 and 65 percent of the market’s units have already been sold, attracting international electronics companies from Egypt and China that have set up permanent showrooms. Built with modern trade infrastructure, the market features basement parking for about 700 vehicles, underground storage capable of holding over 30 forty-foot containers, and an automated central firefighting system.
The project has already driven significant local economic activity, employing over 1,000 daily workers during its construction phase and benefiting thousands more across the supply chain. Federal housing and urban development representatives commended the initiative, noting that streamlined public-private partnership models and market digitization remain essential for driving private investment, creating employment, and boosting Kano’s standing as a regional commercial power.
