Kano-Jigawa Customs Command Generates ₦63 Billion in Half-Year Revenue, Up 7%

The Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command has recorded a significant financial milestone, generating ₦63.07 billion in revenue during the first half of the 2026 fiscal year. This represents a 7.4% increase compared to the ₦58.3 billion collected during the same period in 2025, translating to a growth of approximately ₦4.6 billion despite an overall decline in cargo throughput. Acting Area Controller Usman Umar Adamu highlighted exceptional performance at the Kano Free Trade Zone, which generated over ₦26 billion between January and June 2026, surpassing its entire twelve-month revenue total from 2025 by about ₦4 billion.

The command’s intensified anti-smuggling operations and stricter regulatory enforcement yielded several key outcomes over the six-month period, including the recovery of approximately ₦3 billion from transit procedure infractions and the interception of 14 forty-foot transit containers for clearance violations under the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. Authorities also confiscated various smuggled goods, including foreign rice, pasta, vegetable oil, vehicles, and counterfeit packaging materials for agricultural chemicals, carrying a collective Duty Paid Value of ₦1.7 billion.

In connection with these seizures, border patrol and intelligence-driven operations led to the arrest of 22 suspects, some of whom have been transferred to relevant regulatory agencies for deeper investigation while others remain on administrative bail. Moving into the second half of the year, the command has urged business owners and trade stakeholders to strictly adhere to national fiscal policies. The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to securing the economy, curbing illicit trade, and sustaining close collaboration with other security agencies to facilitate legitimate commerce.
