Kwara Revitalizes Five Primary Health Centers With Global Fund, UNICEF Support
The Kwara State Government has partnered with the Global Fund and the United Nations Children’s Fund to revitalize five Primary Health Care facilities across the state. The upgrade is part of the Global Fund’s COVID-19 Response Mechanism Grant, aimed at improving grassroots health access.
During a meeting with a UNICEF delegation in Ilorin, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, said the intervention aligns with ongoing state reforms to strengthen primary health care systems.
“Primary Health Care centers are the first point of contact, especially in rural and underserved communities,” Elelu stated.
The project includes renovating main buildings, installing solar power systems, constructing boreholes, and providing essential medical equipment. Elelu assured that measures are in place to ensure minimal disruption of services during construction.
UNICEF’s representative, Mr. Gamaliel Ismaila Dargam, commended Kwara’s commitment and confirmed the state remains a priority for the C19RM initiative.
The five facilities are: Mobile Health Clinic, Okuta (Baruten LGA); Basic Health Care Centre, Kulende (Ilorin South LGA); Primary Health Care Centre, Ojagboro (Ilorin East LGA); Primary Health Care Centre, Ilofa (Oke Ero LGA); and Model Primary Health Care Centre, Kpada (Patigi LGA).
