Kwara Teachers Get 27.5% Pay Boost as Governor AbdulRazaq Approves Allowance
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a 27.5% Teachers Specific Allowance for educators across the state, effective January 2026. The announcement follows the governor’s presentation of the 2026 budget to the state house of assembly.
According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the allowance applies to TRCN-certificated teachers under Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), with a 21% allowance for non-TRCN-certified teachers.
The move comes after pressure from the Nigeria Union of Teachers, which had threatened a statewide strike over unmet demands, including implementation of the TSA and National Harmonised Teachers Retirement Age Act. The union had given the governor a deadline to avert the strike.
Governor AbdulRazaq praised teachers’ commitment to education and nation-building, acknowledging their indispensable role in the sector.
