Lagos Fire Claims Life of Elderly Woman, Damages Properties

A 103-year-old woman lost her life in a residential fire that broke out on Bola Street in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State on Friday.

Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said they responded to a distress call around midday and found a bungalow with attached shops already engulfed in flames.

According to the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, emergency procedures were immediately activated. After the fire was extinguished, the body of the elderly woman was recovered.

The fire, which reportedly started in one room before spreading, also affected eight rooms, a mini flat, six shops, and several household properties.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined. The victim’s remains have been handed over to her family, and rescue operations have been concluded.
