Lagos Govt Warns Hotels, Vendors Against Price Hikes, Booking Cancellations

The Lagos State Government has warned hotels, restaurants, and event venues against hiking prices unjustifiably and cancelling confirmed bookings during the Detty December festivities. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this in an interview with TVC News, emphasizing that such practices will no longer be tolerated.

Sanwo-Olu said vendors who renege on prior commitments for higher offers damage Lagos’ reputation as a cultural and tourism hub. “If a commitment has been made, especially where deposits or agreements exist, vendors must honour it. Cancelling bookings for higher bids undermines trust and hurts the image of our city.”

The governor threatened to name and shame offenders and apply the full weight of the law if necessary. The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and LASCOPA are on standby to intervene. The public has been encouraged to report cases of breached agreements or sudden price hikes after confirmation.

Authorities will investigate complaints and resolve issues, applying the law where needed. Sanwo-Olu acknowledged some venues are engaging in these practices but said discussions have been held to prevent recurrence.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring a fair environment for visitors during Detty December.
