Lagos Man Remanded Over Alleged Assault and Dispossession of Late Son’s Widow

A 63-year-old man, David Omolola, has been remanded in police custody following his arraignment before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly threatening, assaulting, and attempting to dispossess his late son’s widow of her property.

The defendant was charged with breach of public peace, threat to life, and assault under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State following an altercation with his daughter-in-law, Tosin Omolola, at her residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. The dispute reportedly arose barely eight days after the death of her husband, Hammed.

According to police charge sheets, the defendant allegedly threatened the lives of the widow and her two children and physically assaulted her during a disagreement over the inheritance of the late husband’s residence, vehicle, and personal belongings.

The incident gained widespread public attention after video footage recorded by the widow circulated on social media, showing members of the deceased’s family attempting to force her out of the residence and locking the property’s gates.

Following public outcry and advocacy intervention, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) collaborated with the Lagos State Police Command to investigate the allegations, leading to the defendant’s arrest and subsequent court appearance.

The court ordered the suspect remanded in custody pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions. State authorities and human rights advocates have confirmed ongoing monitoring of the case to ensure the protection and legal rights of the widow and her minor children.
