LASU Secures ₦3bn TETFund Centre of Excellence for AI, Robotics, Cyber Sciences

Lagos State University (LASU) has been selected as the sole beneficiary institution in Southwest Nigeria for the establishment of a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Centre of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Cyber Sciences (ARCS).
The Chief Public Relations Officer and Head of Media Relations Unit of the institution, Olaniyi S. Jeariogbe, on Friday said the approval followed a rigorous national evaluation process in which the institution distinguished itself through its institutional capacity, existing infrastructure and sustained excellence in emerging technology-driven fields.
Under the 2026 Special Intervention Projects allocation, TETFund approved the sum of ₦3 billion for the establishment of the centre, which is expected to advance research, innovation and capacity development in artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, coding and other emerging digital technologies.
The approval further reinforces the university’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned institutions in digital innovation, with sustained investment in ICT infrastructure and digitised academic and administrative systems.
The university management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, described the development as both a recognition of past achievements and a responsibility to expand technological impact within and beyond the institution.
According to the management, the centre is expected to strengthen LASU’s leadership in technology education while equipping students with critical digital skills needed to compete in the global knowledge economy. It added that the initiative aligns with TETFund’s broader mandate to enhance Nigeria’s technological capacity and bridge the national digital skills gap.
The university expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and TETFund for the intervention, pledging to ensure effective implementation of the project for the benefit of students, staff and the wider Nigerian society.
The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated the LASU community on what she described as a landmark achievement for the institution.
