Lawmaker Dasuki Alleges Alteration of Tax Bills Passed by National Assembly

A member of the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has alleged that the gazetted copy of the new tax laws differs from the version passed by the National Assembly. Speaking at a plenary session, Dasuki claimed that some clauses were altered after the bills were harmonized and passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Dasuki expressed concern that the changes were a breach of his privilege as a lawmaker and a breach of the Constitution. He urged the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, to investigate the matter, saying the version being circulated is not what was passed.

The lawmaker requested that the House revisit the original version and make necessary amendments. “I plead that all the documents should be brought before the Committee of the Whole so that we can make the relevant amendments,” Dasuki said.

Speaker Abbas assured Dasuki and other lawmakers that the issue would be looked into and addressed in the interest of the nation. The development has raised concerns about the integrity of the legislative process and the potential impact on the country’s tax laws.
