Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Saturday visited the rescued Oriire pupils and teachers receiving medical treatment and care at the Military Hospital in Ibadan
The governor met with the survivors following their release after spending more than 50 days in captivity. The pupils and teachers were abducted during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026.
The hospital visit came a day after security agencies announced the successful recovery of the abductees following a prolonged military, police and intelligence-led operation.
The Nigerian Army said the rescue involved troops of the 2 Division, personnel from other security agencies, special forces, local hunters, vigilantes and members of the Oyo State Amotekun Corps.Africans & Diaspora

Their return has brought relief to families and residents of the affected Oriire communities, although the rescue remains marked by the death of teacher Michael Oyedokun, who was killed while in captivity.
