Man, 21, Arrested for Alleged Rape, Murder of Woman in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, for allegedly raping and killing a woman, Olaseni Veronica, in Iboropa community, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

The suspect reportedly strangled the victim after the alleged sexual assault last week.

In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives tracked the deceased’s missing phone based on credible intelligence, leading to Anthony’s arrest.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting to having carnal knowledge of the victim and thereafter strangling her to death,” Jimoh said.

He added that the command condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be diligently pursued.

The case has been transferred to the command headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.

The police urged residents to report suspicious incidents promptly, noting that timely reporting greatly aids effective investigations.
