Man Arrested in Ondo State for Alleged Defilement of Minor
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Osita James, for the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in the Asio, Ile-Olu area of the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect is believed to have committed the act on multiple occasions before his arrest on Thursday. The victim was rescued and taken for medical examination.
Jimoh stated on Monday that the suspect is in custody and has confessed to the crime. “The suspect was promptly apprehended and is currently in custody, where he made useful statements and confessed to the commission of the crime,” he said.
He added that investigations are ongoing and that James will be charged to court upon their conclusion.
The police noted that the arrest aligns with the gender-sensitive policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which emphasizes decisive action against sexual and gender-based violence.
The command commended the public for promptly reporting the incident and urged continued vigilance and cooperation with security agencies.
This case follows a similar incident in April 2025, when an Ondo State Magistrates’ Court remanded two men for the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl in Akure.
