Mutfwang’s Switch to APC: A Strategic Move for the Region – North-Central APC

The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum has hailed Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, calling it a historic and strategic move for the region. In a statement issued by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the forum welcomed Mutfwang into the party, thanking him for heeding their call.

Mutfwang’s defection was formally confirmed on Thursday night by APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting in Abuja. The governor has directed his aides to follow him to the ruling party.

The forum commended Mutfwang’s decision, saying it would strengthen collaboration with President Bola Tinubu and enhance delivery of democratic dividends to Plateau State and the North-Central region. With this move, the North-Central becomes the only geopolitical zone with all six states governed by APC governors.

The forum recalled campaigning for Mutfwang’s defection since April 2024, citing his performance in office and the need for a stable political platform. It reaffirmed its pledge to deliver six million votes for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, up from four million previously.

The forum thanked Tinubu for providing the leadership environment that facilitated Mutfwang’s defection and dismissed opposition from some Plateau APC leaders as driven by personal interests. It insisted that the national chairman had no authority to block Mutfwang’s entry into the party.

The forum has called on Tinubu and APC governors to ensure a smooth integration of Mutfwang into the party.
