NAF Recovers Cockpit Voice Recorder From Igbokoda Crash Site

In a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the tragic military aircraft accident in Ondo State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the wreckage of the ATR-42 aircraft.

The critical recovery occurred precisely 30 days after the aircraft went down in the swampy terrain of Igbokoda, located within the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The CVR—commonly known as one of the two “black boxes” crucial to aviation safety investigations captures audio communications within the cockpit, including pilot conversations, radio transmissions, and ambient background sounds.

Aviation safety experts note that retrieving the device is a pivotal milestone.

Investigators will now extract and analyze the audio data to reconstruct the aircraft’s final moments, evaluate crew actions, and pinpoint the environmental or mechanical factors that led to the tragedy.

The findings are expected to form the cornerstone of the final official accident report, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the crash and offering vital safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
