NAFDAC incinerates N5bn worth of fake goods in Nasarawa

The  National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) onThursday carried out the destruction of products valued at N5 billion in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital. The condemned products, including food, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices, were deemed unfit for human consumption due to their substandard nature.

According to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency’s relentless efforts to rid the market of fake and substandard products have led to the confiscation of these goods from various parts of the country. The products were seized during routine market surveillance and monitoring exercises conducted by NAFDAC operatives.

The destruction of the products was carried out in the presence of officials from relevant agencies, including the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) and the State Ministry of Health. The products were incinerated to prevent them from re-entering the market and posing a risk to public health.

The Director-General reiterated NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of products in the Nigerian market. She urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious products to the agency.

The destruction of the substandard products is a significant step in the fight against fake and poor-quality goods in the country. It serves as a warning to manufacturers and distributors of such products that NAFDAC will not hesitate to take action against those who compromise the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
