National Economic Council Advances Tinubu’s Ranch Reform Plan

Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the 156th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

The meeting is the second since President Bola Tinubu directed the council in December 2025 to develop a roadmap for converting grazing reserves into economically viable ranches, aiming to curb conflicts and boost the livestock industry.

In response to the President’s directive, NEC had previously inaugurated a committee on livestock development, chaired by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris. The committee includes governors from each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones and key federal ministers.

The committee’s mandate is to review existing reform proposals and identify states interested in participating in the nationwide livestock and ranching programme.
