NDLEA Arrests Three Persons with Disabilities for Drug Trafficking, Seizes N5.8bn Cannabis in Lagos Mansion

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested three persons with disabilities for alleged drug trafficking during separate operations in Anambra and Kwara states.

The agency also uncovered a mansion in the Lekki area of Lagos allegedly used as a stash house for illicit drugs, where cannabis valued at over N5.8 billion was recovered.

In Anambra State, a 60-year-old suspect, Romanus Nwabara, was arrested on May 6 in Akpaka Forest, Onitsha, with 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets. Another suspect, Amos Kenneth, 25, was apprehended on May 7 during a raid in the Ogbunike area of the state. He was found with 160.3 grams of Tramadol 225mg and 100mg, 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol-5, and 176.93 grams of skunk.

In Kwara State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu intercepted a commercial vehicle on May 8 and arrested Usman Salisu, a person with disability, who had 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag.

The NDLEA Special Operations Unit raided a mansion at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, on May 8. Recovered from the property were 4,000 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of imported cannabis weighing 2,326 kilograms, with an estimated street value exceeding N5.815 billion. Two Mercedes-Benz buses and various designer sachets used for packaging the substance for retail distribution were also seized.

In Nasarawa State, a 38-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Osita Okeke, was arrested on May 4 at Nyanya-Karu with 129 kilograms of skunk. Meanwhile, operatives on patrol along the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State intercepted a white commuter J5 bus heading to Abuja on May 8, recovering 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms and arresting three suspects: Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa.

NDLEA officers also raided a makeshift skuchies production factory in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos on May 6, arresting two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege. A total of 270 litres of already produced skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg were recovered from them.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA commended operatives of the Special Operations Unit and commands in Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos states for the arrests and seizures, urging them to sustain the momentum in the agency’s drug supply reduction and sensitisation campaigns across the country.
