NDLEA Boss Marwa Urges Sustained Anti-Drug Operations, Honors Officers and Partners

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), has called on personnel to maintain momentum in the fight against illicit substances, framing the effort as a long-term, generational commitment.

Speaking at the 12th Chairman/CEO’s Commendations and Awards ceremony held at the NDLEA national headquarters in Abuja, Marwa stressed that law enforcement must remain vigilant as drug networks continuously adapt and attempt to rebuild after being disrupted.

Beyond law enforcement tactics, Marwa emphasized the critical role played by civil society groups, community organizations, and the media in curbing substance abuse, noting that enforcement alone cannot end illicit drug trafficking.

During the event, the agency recognized 274 outstanding officers and honored 18 top-performing state commands. Additionally, 19 non-governmental organizations and media outlets received commendations for supporting the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.

Marwa highlighted major recent operational successes, including the dismantling of international trafficking networks, the destruction of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories in Ogun and Oyo states, and the interception of cross-border pharmaceutical drug syndicates operating along the West African corridor.
