N’Golo Kanté Completes Move to Fenerbahce, Turkish President Cited for Support

The French World Cup winner joins the Turkish Süper Lig side from Al-Ittihad.

Turkish football club Fenerbahce announced the signing of French midfielder N’Golo Kanté from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad on Wednesday.

The transfer was finalized with what the club described as significant support from Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Club president Sadettin Saran expressed gratitude, stating Erdogan’s involvement was crucial in concluding the process, which he believes will benefit both Fenerbahce and Turkish football.

The 34-year-old Kanté, a World Cup and two-time Premier League champion, joins on an undisclosed contract. The move offers the experienced midfielder a platform to bolster his case for selection in France’s upcoming World Cup squad.

This transfer window, Fenerbahce has also secured French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi as they pursue the Süper Lig title, currently sitting three points behind rivals Galatasaray. The club is set to face Nottingham Forest in the Europa League knockout play-offs later this month.
