NNPP Bars Kwankwaso from 2027 Presidential Ticket

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced that its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will not be permitted to contest the presidency on its platform in the 2027 election.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, the NNPP stated that its presidential ticket will be open to all bona fide members. He attributed the exclusion of Kwankwaso to unresolved disagreements between the party and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which had a pre-2023 election agreement that has since expired.
Olaposi noted that Kwankwaso and other key figures were expelled for alleged anti-party activities after the last election, a decision that remains in effect. He added that the NNPP is already engaging with prospective presidential aspirants and is open to alliances with like-minded parties.
This development follows recent comments by Senator Kwankwaso in Kano, where he expressed openness to joining an opposition coalition, but only if offered a presidential or vice-presidential ticket.
